Sketching live can be exciting, challenging and fun. At live performances like Daniel O’Donnell. It doesn’t look like him but Dean Z looks closer and he signed it for me. And the last drawing Buckingham Palace with lots of people looking as doing.
Are there difficulties? For me I look at them as challenges.
Challenges at Live performances may be small seats, peoples heads in the way, lights going up and down, and moving performers who change clothes and may or may not jump around. I look at the performers body movements and repetitive poses and try to draw one of those. The band and singers are usually in similar positions, but may be obstructed. So I try to capture poses I see and may have to edit the stage size slightly but the viewer may not know this. Sometimes you have to wait for the
Outside sketching (urban sketching) you may have weather conditions, people looking at you, noise, time constraints etc, but you are there so capture what you can. Sometimes you don’t finish it all. For me it’s sketching that’s the fun bit. As long as I can get the lines down.
I try to show the performers, just out of respect, especially the band as they don’t get as much attention as the lead. If I draw people I like to show them too.
